William McDonough is serving as Chair of the Metacouncil on the Circular Economy for the World Economic Forum (the Forum); as chair, and working with vice chair Ellen MacArthur, McDonough is leading a global conversation on circular economy principles and practice.
The Circular Economy Metacouncil convenes international corporations, government officials, and global influencers over a two-year period to identify systemic changes needed to facilitate the shift to a sustainable global economy. Several key events are under way this month and next:
William McDonough will deliver a key speech, “Resource Abundance by Design,” at the eighth Annual Meeting of the New Champions, convened by the World Economic Forum. The event, a global gathering on science, technology and innovation, is being held this year in Tianjin, People’s Republic of China, September 10 through 12, 2014. McDonough will be speaking at 9 a.m. on Friday, September 12, and a public session will be filmed and posted on the Forum website mid- to late October. More than 1,500 participants from 90 countries attend.
At the same meeting, he will kick off the Mayor’s Session: Smart Technologies for Tomorrow’s Cities and lead discussions (1:30-3pm on Thursday, September 11). He will also be a raconteur (10am on Thursday) at the session exploring The Future of Urban Development Initiatives: Learning from China and Moving Ahead.
