Matthew Winkelstein, AIA
Director
As a Director in the West Coast Studio, Matthew Winkelstein provides design leadership on WM+P's projects in the Bay Area, the West Coast, and the Pacific Rim. Prior to joining WM+P, he spent 16 years at HOK as a Senior Project Designer and Vice President, where he was responsible for initiating and developing design concepts, in-house team leadership, and design and technology development committees. He has demonstrated considerable skills for orchestrating large-scale projects within complex design teams and client groups. Winkelstein is thoroughly engaged in all phases of his projects, from presenting client proposals and coordinating consultants to reviewing shop drawings.
Formerly, as one of HOK's leading designers, Winkelstein worked on numerous projects in Asia, North America, and the Middle East. He developed significant expertise in the design of airports, high-tech corporate campuses, high-rises, and R&D offices and laboratories. His experience with aviation projects includes the New Doha International Airport in Doha, Qatar; the Fukuoka International Airport Passenger Terminal in Fukuoka, Japan and the Nagoya Airport International Terminal in Nagoya, Japan; and the Chek Lap Kok International Airport master plan in Hong Kong. He has designed close to 2 million square feet of office space for corporate clients that include Samsung, Nortel Networks, and Visa, and his Bay Area work includes 150 California Street (an office high-rise and SF AIA Best of the Bay winner) and 215 Fremont Street in San Francisco as well as Nortel Networks Headquarters Building in Santa Clara.
Winkelstein received his Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design where he was awarded a letter of commendation for excellence in design. He also holds a Bachelor's in history from Stanford University.
