Mark Rylander has extensive professional experience working on a wide variety of building types and work through all phases of design and construction, both with WM+P and previously working with highly regarded design firms in New York City. His outstanding communication skills and respect for the contributions to be made by building owners, contractors, and engineers factor into his past successes as a project manager. Rylander thrives on interaction with the full range of participants in a design project, and his depth of understanding of building methods and systems enables him to successfully interpret technical concepts in common-sense language. His work typically resolves the larger issues of community while displaying high aspirations for eco-effective design.
Rylander served as project architect on Nike
European Headquarters and the Woods Hole Research Center and as project manager on The Johnson Building in Racine, Wisconsin. His work on both projects was crucial in coordinating with city officials to reconcile the clients’ programs and building designs with broader requirements of the communities. He typically coordinates the firm’s leadership of integrated design teams of developers, local architects, engineers, and other contractors.
Rylander speaks frequently on design issues and has played an active role in the leadership of the
AIA Committee on the Environment, serving as its 2003 Vice-Chair and 2004 Chair. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia and a Master of Architecture from Yale University.
