Diane M. Dale, ASLA, JD
Director of Community Design
Diane Dale has 21 years of experience in site planning, design, and project management in a broad array of public, private and institutional projects. As Director of Community Design, she has guided the translation of the firm's eco-effective architectural strategies into the language of planning. With her unique background and training as a landscape architect and holder of a law degree focusing on environmental and land-use law, Dale frequently participates in the early stages of architectural projects to ensure a successful dialogue between architecture and site. Her work has been instrumental in recasting the firm's planning work as "community design" in recognition of the broad implications of this integrated approach.
Dale has directed a number of corporate, public, and institutional planning projects, and her experience comprises extensive involvement in the public approvals process as well as the management of large-scale projects. Dale has led the firm's engagement on a number of prominent international projects, including new town plans in the People's Republic of China and the United Kingdom. Her work with the University of California, Davis, which sought to develop a new sustainable design paradigm for residential campus communities, was recently recognized with a Planning Honor Award from the ASLA. Dale led the development of innovative stormwater management strategies for industrial landscapes while managing the planning and design of brownfield regeneration of the Ford Rouge Center in Dearborn, Michigan, and the ecological regeneration of the Ford Amazon site in Brazil. She also frequently leads or participates in community-based master planning workshops to build consensus and to develop project vision, goals and objectives. Dale has presented to audiences of Chinese mayors several times recently as part of the American Planning Association's Training Program in Urban Design and Development. |
