DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS – CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA

William McDonough and his companies are looking for a Director of Communications to join our fast-paced and dynamic studio in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Responsibilities include developing and executing a holistic short, medium and long-term communications plan across three organizations (William McDonough + Partners, MBDC, and McDonough Innovation); managing incoming and outgoing public relations opportunities; designing and implementing social media outreach; coordinating awards strategies and submissions; developing content for company websites, project related communications, strategic communication coordination with clients, and organizing press around events.

The most important role of the Director of Communications is to help maintain a consistent “voice” across all of the written material issued by the companies. SENIOR ARCHITECT / DESIGNER – SAN FRANCISCO, CA

William McDonough + Partners, leaders in Cradle to Cradle® inspired design, are seeking talented Senior Architects and Designers with a minimum of 8 years of accomplished professional experience to join our studio in San Francisco, CA.  Candidates should have experience in the design and realization of unique and innovative architectural projects that employ forward thinking eco-effective design approaches and strategies. Successful candidates will work collaboratively with firm Partners and Directors, with opportunities to lead and coordinate the design and management of medium to large scale architectural and campus master planning projects.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Architecture from an accredited program is required. Dual degree in Urban Design or Landscape a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional architectural experience in a design leadership role.
  • Strong design conceptualization and execution skills in all phases of design, from concept generation to construction administration.
  • A portfolio of and background in corporate, commercial, mixed-use, and institutional projects.
  • The ability to coordinate a set of project documents through all phases of design.
  • Previous experience in the successful navigation of state and local regulatory processes.
  • High proficiency and professional experience using Revit for project development and documentation.
  • High proficiency and professional experience in advanced digital modeling, parametric modeling, and rendering.
  • Proficiency in building and environmental analysis tools such as Ecotect or Sefaira valued.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability (and previous experience) in collaborating with and coordinating between team members, clients, and consultants.
  • Able to confidently lead design discussions with clients and consultants.
  • Well-developed verbal, written, and visual / graphic communication skills.
  • An excellent understanding of sustainable design practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, a passion for discovery and constant improvement, high motivation, and an ability to collaborate and work within a team setting are essential.
  • Architectural license and LEED AP preferred.

INTERMEDIATE ARCHITECTS / DESIGNERS – SAN FRANCISCO, CA

William McDonough + Partners, leaders in Cradle to Cradle® inspired design, are seeking talented Architects / Designers with 4 to 7 years of professional experience to join our studio in San Francisco, CA and work collaboratively with project teams on innovative and forward thinking architectural and urban design projects locally and around the world.

Qualified candidates must have strong design conceptualization and execution skills with high proficiency and (professional) experience in the use of Autodesk Revit (required) for project development and documentation.

Candidates must also excel in advanced digital modeling and rendering techniques and have well-developed organizational and verbal, written, and visual / graphic communication skills.

An excellent understanding of sustainable design practices, strong problem solving skills, a passion for learning, high motivation, and an ability to collaborate and work within a team setting are essential.

A degree in architecture from an accredited architectural program is required. Licensure and LEED AP a plus.

INTERN / JUNIOR DESIGNERS – CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA + SAN FRANCISCO, CA

We are seeking talented interns and junior designers to join our studios in Charlottesville, VA + San Francisco, CA.  Working collaboratively with project teams, interns will participate in and contribute to the design and realization of unique and innovative architectural projects.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Architecture from an accredited program is required.
  • High proficiency using Revit. Previous professional experience using Revit a plus.
  • High proficiency in advanced digital modeling, parametric modeling, and rendering.
  • Proficiency in building and environmental analysis tools such as Ecotect or Sefeira valued.
  • Skilled in physical model building including operational knowledge of a laser cutter and 3d printer.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability (and previous experience) in collaborating with and coordinating between team members, clients, and consultants.
  • Well developed verbal, written, and visual / graphic communication skills.
  • An understanding of sustainable design practices.
  • Strong design, analytical and problem solving skills, a passion for discovery and constant improvement, high motivation, and an ability to collaborate and work within a team setting are essential.
